「往事難忘」這首歌是由英格蘭民謠翻譯過來的，
原來的歌名是“Long, Long Ago”
為詩人兼作詞家貝利
(Thomas Haynes Bayly, 1797 – 1839）
在1833 年的作品。在當時的英國，
貝利是摩爾(Thomas Moore)之外最受歡迎的作詞家。
這首歌，不久流傳到美國，
成為當時在美國的暢銷曲。
