每年當新年零點到來之時，全世界都會齊唱一首不朽之作---友誼地久天長(友誼萬歲)。這首膾炙人口的歌，歌詞是來自英國享富盛名的作家----羅伯特·彭斯的一首詩 「Auld lang syne」。他在英國文學史上佔有特殊重要的地位，他復活並豐富了蘇格蘭民歌；他的詩歌富有音樂性，可以歌唱。彭斯生于蘇格蘭民族面臨被異族徵服的時代，因此，他的詩歌充滿了激進的民主、自由的思想。詩人生活在破產的農村，和貧苦的農民血肉相連。
他的詩歌歌頌了故國家鄉的秀美，抒寫了勞動者純樸的友誼和愛情。歌詞原文如下:
